But there are black clouds on the horizon...

Snorkeling-on-stormy-seas

Blue Caribbean waters, white sandy beaches, palm trees swaying in the wind; we've all heard the pitch before. That would be the ideal day on this Caribbean Island of San Pedro.  However, on this particular day there are black clouds hanging on the horizon, the sea is choppy and rain is threatening.

Did I really want to get on that boat? I liken this to the bumper stickers you often see... "a bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office". The color refractions of the sea life would not be as vivid, or so I thought. The tour guide assures us that if there is lightening, we won't get into the water but, he adds, we aren't going to be travelling far enough to get in the middle of the storm. I'm so trusting sometimes.

The waters weren't so blue that day but the snorkeling was magnificent. The sea was a bit choppy but it didn't hinder the sites and wonders of what was going on underneath the surface. We saw at least four giant sea turtles, all kinds of fish and conch, nurse sharks, stingrays and beautiful coral formations. I'm glad I didn't say "no" to going and that I trusted in our guides who live on the sea almost every day of the year. No worries. It was better than a good day at the office!

SIDE NOTE:

After returning to the shores I lost a pair of trusted travel buddies. These flip flops have bejeweled my feet for years during all four seasons. You can no doubt determine that, by how I had worn them down to the leather soles. The detached toe post was irreparable. I'm sure going to miss these guys.
