Yep. This scene on the beach just south of San Pedro Town deserved a second glance. A parade of young beauties carefully navigated their way off the two foot high seawall onto the beach in front of BC's and the Hurricane Ceviche Bar & Grill.
They were headed south to an event at Ramon's Village and were followed by an entourage of what appeared to be press agents; all the while receiving long, wide-eyed glances from the children playing in the water. The young women pranced through the sand in their stilettos as if walking on a runway. Tyra Banks would have been proud.
The International Costa Maya Festival, the biggest festival in the Country of Belize, officially kicks off on August 1st. Throughout this week the young women will grace local businesses on Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker prior to competing for the Reina De La Costa Maya Title later this week. Countries represented by these pageant darlings include El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and, of course, Belize.
I felt a bit underdressed in my flip-flops and sun dress. If the USA would have had a candidate in the mix, I'm certain that they would have contacted me to adorn these women who are more than half my age. "C'est la vie" . /*sigh*/. But then I might have had to give up my flip flops for stilettos; I'm not sure I'm prepared for that.
